Motivate Your Youngsters to Read More

Enjoy even better reward-driven reading and learning on the LOTE4Kids App – available from your local library.

Your youngsters can build reading and learning streaks across four areas: the number of days they use the app, books read, activities completed and languages explored. As streaks grow, so do the rewards – children earn feathers for their Lekti avatar and collect special books that celebrate their progress.

Even better, every child gets a personal bookshelf in the app. It’s their home base to see streak progress, view rewards, and proudly showcase what they’ve been reading and learning! Perfect for sparking motivation and keeping the habit going.

Speak to your local library to find out more about Lote4Kids. This great service enables your children to enjoy over 7000 digital books in over 95 languages together with English translations, from the comfort of home.

Celebrate German Language Day

We’re shining a spotlight on German! With over 100 million native speakers, German is the most widely spoken language in the European Union. It’s known for its long compound words, rich literary tradition, and precise expressions. German is the official language of Germany, Austria, and parts of Switzerland – and you’ll find vibrant German-speaking communities across the globe.

Celebrated on the second Saturday of September, German Language Day is about honouring the rich history, culture, and creativity of the German language. From the magical worlds of the Brothers Grimm to everyday words like Kindergarten and Wanderlust that have travelled across languages, German is full of surprises. Say “Hallo!” with a story in German this month and let the adventure begin!

Fun Fact: Did you know that German once held the record for the longest word used in official documents? The 63-letter word Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz referred to a law about beef labelling. While it’s no longer in use, it’s a great example of how German builds words like Lego blocks!

Reward-driven Learning

Language learning for children should be playful, exciting and full of fun. That’s why the Lote4Kids app includes reward-driven learning features designed to keep young learners motivated and engaged from their very first story.

Meet Lekti and the Feathers of Progress: in the free Lote4Kids app, children earn feathers by reading books, playing games and completing quizzes. These feathers can be traded for fun accessories to personalise their very own Lekti, a cheerful language-learning friend who grows with them. From silly hats and glasses to mix-and-match tops and bottoms, they can style their Lekti however they want.

Reward-driven learning uses positive reinforcement to make progress feel meaningful and fun. Whether it’s earning points or unlocking a new challenge, these small incentives help children stay focused and build consistent reading habits, with an added sense of achievement.

Try this modern way to blend language, literacy and play – all accessible with your library membership.

Focus on Spanish

Spoken by over 480 million native speakers, Spanish is the world’s second most spoken language. Originating from the Iberian Peninsula, it has evolved over centuries, influenced by cultures like Arabic, which contributed thousands of words. Today, Spanish continues to shape global literature, music, and culture.

Spanish Language Day: Celebrated every April 23, this day honours the global impact and cultural legacy of Spanish through storytelling, music, and community events. It’s a chance to recognise Spanish as a language of expression, creativity, and connection across continents. In the spirit of the celebration, explore the Spanish collection in LOTE4Kids and enjoy bilingual stories that bring the language to life!

Fun Fact: Spanish doesn’t mess around when it comes to long words — just look at anticonstitucionalmente! This 23-letter tongue twister means “in an unconstitutional way,” and it’s one of the longest words in the language. It might not come up in everyday conversation, but it’s a fun reminder of how flexible (and dramatic!) Spanish can be. Think you can say it five times fast? ¡Buena suerte!
